AS MORE PEOPLE DISCOVER MORE ABOUT THE PERSON OF JOKE-ORELOPE: A CAUSE TO GIVE ASM THE RIGHT AGENDA
By Razaq Adedeji Jimoh
This writer had the privilege to attend the
Fourth edition of Lagos State University Lecture and Innovative Fair. The Senor Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goal and former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Her Excellency, Dr. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire (OFR, MGAC), was a part of the guest speakers where she gave the Keynote Address. There, this writer discovered more of her depth of intellectual prowess in leadership motivational skill. Following that but just a couple of days back, Alhaji Akibu Soliu (aka Sanjay), was also caught in confession to have just discovered another part of Her Excellency. By cause of the confession, Sanjay obviously referred to the leadership magnanimity ‘Mama’ displayed to his astonishment. I would therefore think the right premise of empirical evidence to give a base for this missive is the hopeful peace that may have come to the Alimosho progressive family called the All Progressive Congress (APC), which is coming only on the strength of that Joke Orelope’s magnanimity.
The crux of this piece is that if the peace eventually manifests in the anticipated practical term of cohesive party meetings in line with the official list of the LGA and ward executive membership that is long in denial by the establishment (Mainstream), it should be concluded that it came only through Joke Orelope’s leadership submission to the wish of her followers. Her excellency was said to have sacrificed her due right of equity to her opposition camp the Sanjay actually belongs “just to give peace a chance”.
The event was her turn of the visitation by the self-initiated ‘peace and reconciliation’ team raised by resolution of the six Alimosho divisional LGA/LCDA party chairmen but led by the party’s state and zonal officers resident in Alimosho. After all said and done, and from the issues placed before her, Mama was quoted to have said if her own unquestionable demand for equity would continue to upset the peace in other divisions of Alimosho, she had chosen to give it up. Stunned by this concession, the Alhaji Akibu, who is the party chairman of Egbe-Idimu LCDA, was said to have risen to confess that the Joke Orelope he had encountered at that meeting was different from the Joke Orelope he had known through the past narration by proxy. “Isunmoni la fi n mose eni”, he was quoted to have said to drive home his confession with the right Yoruba proverb.
What does this essayist intend to drive with this as take home for the Alimosho APC faithful? The discernible would aptly agree that it is enough a cause to appreciate the emerging new order of her leadership era with the right understanding. As the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would always draw in conclusion from such narrative of her magnanimity, “when a people fear their leader, it is tyranny at play. But when it is the leader that fears his people, democracy is said to be working.
This should summarily suffice for a view to see why Mama may have bowed to the which of a section of the reconciliation team as desirable for the peace to reign. Thus to say that where she had cause to pull the string of power from the back of her horse ride, especially as could be needful for some vengeance, she played the humble game by coming down and rather stoop to conquer her distraught for the lingering disharmony in Alimosho.
Given the character of humility she so exhibited with this, the APC faithful in their rank and file in Alimosho would need to see it through the prism of a change to come. It should be a common knowledge to all that every change in leadership, especially when it occurs by seismic organic process of nature and “divine time”, is bound to evolve a new culture by which the social system will run. What must then be understood is that every social system will always project the character of its leader. An intuitively corrupt leader will soon dissipate the aura of permissive corruption to permeate and ramify the society unhindered. Just so, a culturally disciplined leader will literally communicate his innate nature with the right body language and needful conduct for thrust of the desirable social discipline insidiously.
When this writer said it was at the LASU’s event that he “discovered” another part of Mama – being her “motivational leadership skill”, the implicit conclusion to draw from this is that there are yet the many parts to be discovered about the person of Dr. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire by many and for many in due course as the circular burdens of followership from within and outside the politics begin to converge their centripetal forces at her central pole.
We must know that like Sanjay’s confession to the discovery of another part of her from political perspective, there are many residents of Alimosho, least to say party members, that are in desire of such new truth about Mama. But many of them may never have cause for the privilege of direct contact the Sanjay had to meet her. It is therefore the duty of her political aides to project her character by proxy of their own good deeds.
For one, there have been too many politically motivated falsehoods fabricated around her in the politicians’ cave that have filtered into the open society and consequently almost becoming Goebbelsian truths. Likewise are many maliciously invoked statements of ignorance that have been insidiously spread about her, which would need practical orientation of the people to put right. Many residents of Alimosho have continued to carry a mental picture of a ‘Joke Orelope’ as “one uneducated hairdresser” that is lucky to rise through the ladder of her father’s political privileges. It was the first narration this writer first heard about Mama way back in the early year 2000 until events began to reveal more facts about her. The narrative is still rife today as the gaullible keep increasing their demographic clan in the Alimosho Federal Constituency.
Curiously, Mama never cared a hoot about all this, just as Tinubu had often times ignored the Goebbelsian lies that have been told about him. But there are times when the lies may build up to the capacity to touch a human soul on the strength of deep emotions, particularly when the society may begin to assimilate them for the malicious truth intended. Such was the feel of Asiwaju Tinubu at the time of ENDSARS. To those that did not know, it is a fact that Asiwaju nearly considered giving up his presidential ambition on account of the weight of sentiments the like of SaharaReporters, its founder – Sowore, and other mainstream media maliciously whipped up against him in causative aggravation of the Endsars crises.
What this essayist is therefore trying to pass as a message is that the political aides of Dr. Orelope-Adefulire hold it a duty to uphold the creed of truth, equity, honesty and selflessness through which the many distant party faithful will discover more about her in the feel of her era of leadership. Two recent events, like the Lagos Youths Walk for Tinubu, would have given some ASM members that participated in the rally the impression that Joke Orelope era may not neccesarily be a departure from the past because of a shortchanging act they witnessed in some of the Alimosho divisions. The emerging “Apex Leadership” of this era would therefore do good to ensure that such acts of making fat cow from the top slimming to skinny appearance by the time it gets to the base of the pyramid were nipped in the bud. This will first go a long way in reshaping the peoples’ mindset and prepare them ready to open for the acceptance of any new narrative to come about Mama and her leadership.
Interestingly, the Asiwaju Solidarity Movement (ASM) is being pushed out as her sole political pet project for this clime of election that also comes in coincidence with her “divine time” of Alimosho leadership. It is the opinion of this writer that the ASM may as well set out the agenda to define Mama’s leadership era. As the APC State Vice Chairman, Chief Sunday Aboyade, was once quoted to have said, ASM is all about “Making Alimosho Great Again”. Sequel to that, this writer was further privileged to see an “A-STREAM Agenda” that had been proposed by a well-meaning enthusiast of what ASM ought to become. A clear perusal of the A-STREAM details will reveal the good things the ASM holds for all stakeholders in the Alimosho Federal Constituency. And by deeper evaluation, the stakeholdership clearly covers the APC as an institution, the party members and the electorate in class of the entire non-partisan residents of Alimosho. The agenda, which all ASM members may have to hold by rote state thus:
A – Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential ambition and governance prospect as our existential imperatives, driven by absolute commitment to the path of his electoral victory.
S – Street structure to be expediently built for effective connection of the voting public with the party’s service values, using all channels of relations and communications.
T – Total loyalty to the party and party supremacy as intensive orientations to be upheld by party members.
R – Re-energizing the party through activities aimed at keeping the party alive all year round
E – Exponential votes returns to be aggressively pursued as the measurable outcome of making a difference from the past.
A – Aligning members to total commitment to the growth of the party as a progressive family through equal opportunities, unhindered inclusiveness and satisfactory sense of belonging.
M – Making Alimosho great again through restoration of her past political and electoral glories.
One can only hope with self reassurances that with ASM, Alimosho shall become great again!

ASM PREPARES WOMEN FOR THE TASK OF TINUBU’S MISSION TO THE PROMISED LAND, AS APC HOLDS PRAYER FOR THE LATE MOBELL
By Ololade Barakat and Mariam Balogun
FROM the North to South, women are being mobilized under different auspices to bring them to supporting the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima in their campaign of ‘Renewed Hope’ 23’ as a mission to the Promised Land. The duo makes the respective Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Just a couple of days back, the team of Osun First Lady, Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola and former First Lady of Oyo State, Florence Ajimobi, launched their own mobilization platform named ‘Akoni Obinrin’, Governor Oyetola aptly described it as a great event for rallying the women folks to political and economic advantage.
On Sunday, October 30, The Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDG) and former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Her Excellency, Dr. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, joined the trail of using special purpose vehicle for the women mobilization under the auspices of Women for Asiwaju Solidarity Movement. (W4ASM). While this may not be so pronounced for the categorical identity, it is surely so implied by the term of “Special Prayer” for ASM Women as the event was entitled.
The day could as well be described as a ‘Sunday of Special Prayers’ in the Alimosho, progressives, as the special prayer known as Fridaus in Islam was also held for the late Alhaji Moshood Olateju Bello, aka Mobell, who was the LGA Party Secretary for Mosan/Okunola Local Council Development Area of Alimosho Federal Constituency. He died on Tuesday through a ghastly motorcycle (Okada) accident in the course of service duty to the party.
The ASM interreligious prayer for women was held at the expansive premises of the Orelope family in Egebeda area of Aimsoho Local Government. In attendance were APC chieftains in governance and party leadership. They included the APC State Vice-Chairman, Lagos West, Chief Sunday Babatunde Aboyade; Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Alimsoho Constituency 01, Hon Bisi Yusuf; and Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing Hakeem Ejalonibu-Amodu who was said to be representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The prayers were led by the Chief Imam of Egebda Kingdom while Pastor Olubode led the Christian interdenominational version. All the clergy advised those in governments to be good to the people in the exercise of their authority over them because they would one day give account of the deeds to the Almighty God. They also gave their respective testimonies to why the Presidential Candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, deserved to be the next President of Nigeria.
In his own comment on the sideline of the event, The State Vice-Chairman, Chief Aboyade, said APC was a party that allowed everybody to come on board with his or her ideas and strategies the party would need to win the elections for all categories of office in 2023. He said from his view, ASM was all about such idea being put forward by the new leadership of the Alimosho progressives.
He said: “ASM, if you ask me, is all about how Alimosho will deliver the desirable massive votes Asiwaju Tinubu will need to be proud of his victory as having the strongest supports from Lagos as his primary constituency. Don’t forget, Alimosho used to be called ‘Tinubu’s Country’. We earned that Monica through delivery of winning votes to the pool of Lagos’ electoral victory. While we acknowledge that we have had a series of decline in that regard in the recent past, we are looking at this ASM as a means of making Alimsoho great again through a return to this tradition of massive votes delivery”.
One of the ASM Ambassadors, Hon Zanuth, who interacted with our reporter at the event, said the prayer was meant to put God first ahead of the campaign set to begin in a few days’ time. She described ASM as a metaphoric “pregnant woman” that needed the supports of women folks for safe delivery.
She said: “The women wing of the ASM train is ready to put in all the best they can muster to ensure that the prospect of election victory for which ASM was created by our political leader and mother, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire is achieved. ASM is like a pregnant woman set to go into labour soon, latest by February ending of 2023. It is the duty of we women in Alimosho, and I mean not the APC women alone but the entire women resident in Alimosho, to ensure she (ASM) delivers the victory babies alive and safely”.
Meanwhile, the post-burial special prayer known as Fridaus for Alhaji Moshood Bello was held at his Abesan Estate residence earlier on Sunday. The Party was yet represented at the event through the State Vice-Chairman, Lagos West, Chief Sunday Aboyade. He however sent his political aides, the duo of Mr. Ewuoso Oladunjoye and Mr. Sunday to represent him for the obvious reason of age difference that made the late Mobell more or less his younger brother. As Civics Weekly gathered, Alhaji Bello attended Olivet Grammar School, Oyo, where he was a junior student to Chief Aboyade. And since they have come to meet again in the Alimosho Progressives politics, the latter had always related to the former as his younger brother. This relational emotion, according to source, informed the attendance of Aboyade in the representative capacity.
Other party chieftains at the prayer event were member of the Lagos House of Assembly, Alimosho 02, Hon Kehinde Joseph; Vice-chairman, Alimosho Local Government, Hon Akin Johnson; Former Secretary to the Local Government, Mosan/Okunola LCDA, Omo’ba Falade; APC Candidate for the House of Representatives, Hon Ganiyu Ayuba. Others were party leaders from across the six divisions of Alimosho Federal Constituency.
The hosts were the political and immediate family members of the late Mobell. Alhaja Bello and children were seated for the family while the APC Leader for the LCDA, Alhaji Y. Y. stood for the party.
