RESIDENTS CALL FOR ROAD SAFETY CAUTION AS ADUNNI GETS BOYSTOWN RIGHT THIS TIME

By Razaq Adedeji Jimoh
Amidst jubilation in Boystown community in Mosan/Okunola Local Council Development Area over rehabilitation of their major road, residents are calling on the Council Chairman to put in place the necessary safety measures the new road demands.
While praising the Executive Chairman, Hon Opeyemi Adunni Akindele, for the road work as their expectations fulfilled, they observed that the lack of speed breaking bumps at reasonable spans on the road was a “potential danger” lurking around. “She must proactively move to avert this”, Mr. Adunola Adeyemi, a resident in the Market side of the new road said.
On a previous working visit to the Council by Civics Weekly to conduct an independent investigative Needs Assessment Evaluation (NAE) among the various component communities, majority of the Boystown residents, a federal estate in the Council, were unequivocal about their demand for rehabilitation of the benighted road.
Perhaps for capturing this as a part of the stumps collations, the victorious Akindele declared the eyesore road as a priority concern at her inauguration remarks. On a return visit to the council on the crest of euphoria of “100 Days in Office”, this magazine was faced with the conviction of a promise kept by the woman Chairman.
Thus, amidst the jubilation, this magazine spoke to a few residents for expression of their feelings. Not a few of them emphasized the safety concern about the road that is now tempting for speed race. One of them said: “Though you cannot call it any lapses, but I think speed breakers should have been part of the road plans”.
Adding another voice in this regard, Mr. Adekunle Omotoyin said it was a “danger lurking around” to burst to disaster any time if this oversight was not brought to attention of the council officials.
He said: “We live in an environment where the youth exuberance is commonly exhibited. If you live in this estate, you will know what I’m saying. Even in the old bad shape of the road, we knew how some vehicles used to drive so recklessly. Now with this flat and smooth road, what can we expect? So, it is a danger lurking around if there is no speed breaker”.
Mrs. Iyabode Safiriyu, a former resident of the area, now residing at Ipaja, was also encountered by this writer at the point of engaging public opinion. As a matter of facts, she was the first to bring attention to this somewhat “short coming”. PLEASE LISTEN TO HER IN THIS VIDEO CLIP
