'I DID NOT SACK ANY AUTHENTIC COUNCIL STAFF' -- PRINCE BALOGUN EXPLAINS
Story by Ololade Barakat
The Executive Chairman of Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon (Prince) Idris Balogun, has clarified the air on the rage that he resumed office only to begin sacking of the Council staff. He emphatically said he did not sack any staff -- whether adhoc or established. He nevertheless added that it behooves on him to do the needful staff rationalisation for his starting point.
He said this to a gathering of party faithful this past Thursday, where he reiterated that every administrative action he would be taking would surely be in tandem with welfare of the people.
He explained that he only did what was necessary of a leader intended to find his feet on a good pedestal of the right data. Part of this, he said, was the need to take a roll call of the staff strength he inherited. Literally to imply that his action was to weed out ghost workers, he said he had to conduct a "staff accreditation excercise".
He said: "I want to assure all of you that I did not intend to reduce the staff strength I inherited. We are only doing the necessary accreditation so that we shall have real live workers on our pay roll. The accreditation will be done on Tuesday (today). I urge all that is concerned to make appearance for it. It is just an internal staff verification exercise.
"After this exercise, any shortfall we find in relation with what we inherited as staff record, we will fill by engaging some of you. This what we are doing about that".
He went further to give accounts of his administration in about the last two weeks. He described it as "familiarisation with communities" making up the conurmbation of Egbe-Idimu LCDA.
He said "All we have been doing is visitation to the various communities to familiarise ourselves with the people. Through that, we were able to take note of what we could gather as their peculiar problems. We were also able to see all roads and infrastructure requiring our immediate or short run interventions.
"Thus, in short while, we shall role out performances to the delight of Egbe-Idimu residents. Of course, this will include massive empowerment programmes in a away that has never been done".
