A COP'24 EVENT HERO GOES HOME TODAY: TRIBUTE TO PRINCE APENA OLADEGA

From Editor's Desk
This week, Civics Weekly decided to join the entire people, especially the ancestral sons and daughters of Idimu Kingdom in Alimosho Federal Constituency to mourn the passing away of an illustrious one of their own, Crown Prince Apena Oladega Akintunde Kassim – a potential Onidumu of Idimu divined never to wear the crown were the ongoing court process to resolve the selection impasse to go in his favour. His Fridaus prayer service is scheduled to come up this Sunday, January 26, 2025.
Were the botched COP’24 event to hold on December 12, 2024 as scheduled, he was to be our essential guest to hold forth the front desk for the royal cadre. And in context of the “Cultural Exchange”, he voluntarily pioneered the idea of dedication of a page to each of all the kingdoms making up the conurbations of the landmass called Alimosho Local Government in the classification as a Federal Constituency in the event’s Programme Book. It is meant to tell a brief about each of them in any manner of preferred choice by the royal father. His’ was a welcome speech to the anticipated 1,500 guests, wherein he introduced his Idimu as the immediate close neighbourhood community to the Isheri Olofin, the host Kingdom. The full text of his message is here published below.
“IT is with great pleasure that I welcome the participants and visiting guests to this August occasion holding in the land of Alimosho. By right of due protocol, I want to acknowledge the presence of your Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu and some of his Cabinet members here present. And I would like to add that whatever the honour Alimosho may want confer on you, it is a message of appreciation for the life imparting projects you have done in Alimosho.
“When I received information about the coming of this event, I was impressed to know that participants have gathered here today for the feeds of life guide you will need for a living in the open society you are about entering in a couple of months ahead after your final external examinations. Beyond that, however, I could also see additional value of cultural exchange in this programme. Coming from all nook and crannies of the Eko Megacity, it should not be out of place to expect that it is also an opportunity for you to learn one or two things about Alimosho -- the host Local Government.
“Thus I say, I, Apena-Oladega Akintunde Kassim, a Crown Prince of Idimu Kingdom --and ultimately a potential Monarch of the land -- speaks to you on behalf of the good people of Idimu Land in this Alimosho.
"Idimu is the immediate neighbouring Kingdom to this Isheri Olofin hosting this venue of the event. In The line of culture and tradition, it is a Full blooded Awori land ruled by a First-Class Oba with the title of Onidimu of Idimu. Talking about who we are, I make bold to say that, as a people, we are well endowed with the spirit of hospitality renowned with the Omoluabi candour in the Yoruba people. That is why Idimu is here by my representation to receive you as a part of the kingdoms making up the Alimosho.
"I also learnt that this event is practically the maiden event of an endowment in honour of a renowned and one of the foremost female politicians to emerge from Lagos State, Her Excellency, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire (OFR). I would like to say it emphatically that there could not have been a better time to give her a deserving life-time honour than now she is celebrating 65years of her journey in life. Interestingly, the talk of her life history can never, and I repeat, never, complete without a reference to her ancestral origin from Idimu. This should therefore presupposes that Idimu Kingdom is also your host for this great event.

"On behalf of the great people of Idimu, therefore, I congratulate Her Excellency for the God's blessing in the gift of followers that have found her worthy of this rare life-time honour to keep bold her footprints of service to humanity. To you the participants and guests, I once again welcome you to Alimosho and wish you a joyous stay in the short time you are to spend".
In all ways that fell within his capacity, Prince Ladega contributed immensely to the hopeful success of the event, including a meaningful financial strength to boost. As a matter of fact, following the unfortunate postponement of the event, he described it as “Allah’s Blessing” he had seen to do more in manner that some areas of the programme that were expediently shuffled aside would have to be brought in. We had no cause to doubt him, being one whose word is a bankable bond. But as it turned out, ‘man proposes, God disposes’.
Having joined his ancestors, we can only beseech the God Almighty to grant him paradise and give his family left behind the fortitude to bear the loss. From the Civics Weekly, we say: A sin e ki a to pada leyin e.
